HB 224 (2021)

Allow window tinting on side windows

Summary:

Allows for aftermarket tinting of side windows in vehicles.  The House amended the bill to allow aftermarket tinting of windows to the left and right of the driver with light transmittance of at least 70%.

The Senate amended the bill to also clarify the civil liability for damage to highways, for example to include "any structure or device that is part of the highway or turnpike system." The Senate amendment also revises the law governing the release of motor vehicle records to employers and other individuals, generally letting employers to access driving records of prospective employees. These provisions are similar to parts of another bill, SB 134.

A conference committee of representatives and senators removed the part of the bill dealing with employer access to motor vehicle records.
