The debate over gun rights and gun control has grown increasingly heated in the wake of horrific mass shootings at schools, movie theaters, and other public venues. Gun rights advocates argue that protecting the right of law-abiding citizens to arm themselves for self-defense is the best means of preventing such crimes, while others contend that the only way to ensure public safety is to restrict who may own firearms and where they may be carried.
