Rep. Glenn Cordelli is sponsoring a 2016 bill that would study an alternative school funding program for students with disabilities: education savings accounts.

Arizona was the first state to develop an education savings account program, in 2011.  Education savings accounts give parents the per pupil funding that would otherwise go to a public school.  The parents can choose to spend that money on any school, education program, or education supplies of their choice.

Supporters praise these accounts as a way to customize education for each child’s unique needs, from talking calculators to specialist tutors.

Opponents argue that education savings accounts will decrease funding for public schools, which will make it even more difficult for those schools to serve for students with special needs.

Do you think education savings accounts are a better way to support education for students with disabilities?  Share your opinion in the comments section.
