Courts to offer alternative probation program for drug users

News Date
Body

The New Hope program, a new probation option for drug users at risk for committing new crimes, is being implemented by the New Hampshire Judicial Branch.

Judicial officials noted that the program is not intended to assist those with severe addictions or violent offenders, rather those who are drug users with the potential to find success with a chance for rehabilitation.

The program's first hearing will be held in March at the Hillsborough County Superior Court North, where the program will be based.

Those in the program will go through drug screenings three times each week, with positive drug tests resulting in incarceration.
