Do you think citizens should be able to propose ballot initiatives in NH?

In addition to votes for president and other state and federal races, voters in several states weighed in on key policy issues that appeared on their ballot thanks not to legislative action but to citizen ballot initiatives. These include votes that legalized the use of recreational marijuana in New Hampshire neighbors Maine and Massachusetts, as well as measures that tightened gun control rules and raised the minimum wage in other states.

Currently, the NH constitution does not allow for citizens to vote directly on policy issues.

Supporters of amending the constitution to allow for citizen-driven ballot initiatives argue that they would give people a direct voice on the issues that matter to them, representing democracy at its purest.

However, opponents counter that ballot initiatives can end up being hijacked by special interest groups from outside New Hampshire. They also argue that with the lowest citizen-to-elected official ratio in the United States, Granite Staters are well represented already and do not need a ballot initiative.
