The Republican National Committee is reevaluating having the first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire for the 2020 election cycle.

Supporters of keeping the nation's first primary in New Hampshire, including the Chairman of the state Democratic Party, say that having the primary in New Hampshire is tradition, and that New Hampshire is "a testing ground for presidential candidates, giving long-shot candidates a chance and making sure candidates face tough questions." Supporters also point out that it is in New Hampshire's state law to have the nation's first primary in the state.

Opponents argue that New Hampshire does not represent the diversity of the United States. They further contend that states with demographics that better match that of the nation as a whole should have the early primaries, as these tend to direct the conversation on the issues. Opponents also cite that although it is in New Hampshire's law to hold the primary before anyone else, the U.S Supreme Court has ruled that parties can eclipse laws like that.
