GOP to challenge NH primary?
Challenges to New Hampshire’s “first in the nation” primary status are as old as the primary itself, but rumors stirring ahead of this month’s Republican National Convention indicate the possibility of a more serious threat.
A proposal for a rules changes is expected to be offered at the Rules Committee meeting, scheduled to take place just before the convention. The new rule would see early states such as New Hampshire and Iowa paired with another state. For example, New Hampshire could see its primary taking place simultaneously with one in Massachusetts or Vermont.
Presidential candidates, including Donald Trump, have expressed support for maintaining New Hampshire’s “first in the nation” status, but challengers contend that New Hampshire is not representative of the U.S. population as a whole.
