New York is working to bar sex offenders from playing Pokemon Go. The state has asked the game developer to block players from a list of sex offenders, and to remove game locations near offenders' homes.

Pokemon Go is a mobile game that requires players to travel the real world to "catch" Pokemon creatures.

Supporters point out that Pokemon Go has already been involved in several crimes. For example, robbers have staked out locations from the game to find victims. Offenders may also use the game as an excuse to go where children are congregating

Opponents question whether its possible to enforce such a ban, even if the game developer cooperates. Others note that children are most likely to be victimized by people they know, not strangers, so state efforts would be better spent elsewhere.
