Former congressional candidate Dan Innis has resigned his post as Republican Party finance chairman to explore a U.S. House campaign in 2016.

Innis challenged U.S. Rep. Frank Guinta for the Republican nomination in 2014 and lost by less than 5,000 votes.

Guinta has told reporters he is considering a reelection campaign in 2016, despite calls to resign after a dispute with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).  Guinta was ordered to pay the FEC a fine and repay a $355,000 donation from his parents.  Guinta claims the $355,000 came from a communal family fund, and therefore qualified as self-financing; there are no limits on the donations a candidate can make to his or her own campaign.

Innis has not joined the calls for Guinta to resign.  "That is entirely his decision," said Innis.

Innis is a former University of New Hampshire business school dean and former hotel owner.  He was one of the first openly gay candidates to run for federal office in New Hampshire, but he told NH1 he wants to focus on the issues, not his personal story.
