Sununu for Governor?

In the first step towards a possible run for Governor, Executive Councilor Chris Sununu (R) has stepped down as general manager of Waterville Valley Resort.

"This definitely gives me more day-to-day flexibility to do a lot more things politically," Sununu told WMUR, "whether it’s visiting with the various presidential candidates, working with other potential local candidates or even exploring my own opportunities."

In his role as Executive Councilor, Sununu is familiar sparring with Gov. Maggie Hassan (D).  The Executive Council is responsible for approving state contracts and gubernatorial appointments.

Sununu has been a vocal opponent of expanded commuter rail and Medicaid expansion.

Gov. Maggie Hassan (D) may not be Sununu's opponent in the 2016 election, however; there is speculation that Hassan will challenge Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R).
