Summary:
Allows a person sentenced to incarceration for at least five years to apply for parole after completing 50% of their sentence, provided they have demonstrated good behavior. Inmates sentenced for some crimes - particularly sexual assaults and crimes against children - would not be eligible.
The House amended the bill to apply to people sentenced for at least seven and a half years, and to require the person to complete 65% of their sentence.
