SB 231 (2019)

Summary:

Creates a new prohibition against false political advertising for elections to the state House and Senate. A candidate may file a written complaint with the Legislative Ethics Committee along with evidence and a filing fee of $100 within 10 days of publication of alleged false political advertising. If the committee finds the advertisement to be "materially false," the advertiser must pay a fine. The Senate amended the bill to instead establish a committee to study truth in political advertising.
