Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?

"Our public tax dollars should go first to our public schools. As stated above, the State has a legal obligation to provide education to all of its citizens. That is accomplished first in our public schools. This voucher program will cost the state $14 million this year with funds taken from the public school Education Trust Fund. The statistics show that this coming school year, 80% of the students in this program were already attending private/religious schools before the voucher plan was created."

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the first trimester (e.g. after 6 weeks gestation)?

"We should ensure that people have access to reproductive health care, access to contraception, and access to necessary public health care. We should codify the basic holding of Roe v. Wade into our state law, as is the case in all the other New England states."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the second trimester (e.g. after 15 weeks gestation)?

"We should ensure that people have access to reproductive health care, access to contraception, and access to necessary public health care. We should codify the basic holding of Roe v. Wade into our state law, as is the case in all the other New England states."

Should New Hampshire ban discussions about sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K-3?

"Our teachers are capable of handling these issues in a respectful manner should they arise in the classroom."

Do you support the state law that bans teaching certain concepts, such as the idea that people may be "inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously"?

"This question is not well worded. This question is based on a law that is poorly worded. Teachers do not teach that anyone is inherently racist or sexist. It is reasonable to contend that the real purpose of the divisive concepts bill is to discourage teachers from teaching the history of our country and promoting the discussion of important social issues with our students. The entirety of the bill is so vauge that teachers are uncertain if they will face the sanction of losing their teaching license if they have honest classroom discussions on these important topics. We should trust our teachers and treat them like allies. It is their job to help our children understand history and have quality discussions on the important issues of the day."

Should New Hampshire add a tax credit for businesses that contribute to student loan repayment for employees?

"A law similar to this was passed in the COVID relief package from the federal government. Instead of a tax credit, employers could make a student loan payments for their workers, and the amount paid would not be taxed as income, reducing the tax burden of the both the employer and the employee. It seems like we have a good solution to this already in place at the federal level."

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

Should New Hampshire government do more to address climate change?

"We need to adress climate change and acknowledge that it is a serious threat to the planet and our well-being. The devastating impacts around the world make it clear that this is a problem we must address now. We cannot wait another decade. This is our moral obligation to our future generations.Renewable energy is also cheaper than fossil fuels and this would help reduce our electric bills. In New Hampshire, we should adopt a robust program to increase the productionof renewable energy and restore funding for and increase funding for programs that promote energy conservation/efficiency. In addition to increasing the production of renewable energy, we should increase our efforts to develop the capacity for storage of energy from renewable sources, and also modernize the electric grid so it can more effectively use all of the energy generated from renewable sources, thereby reducing dramatically our reliance on fossil fuels."

Do you support giving voters who register without ID on Election Day a ballot that only counts if they return identifying documents to the state before a deadline?

"This plan would create barriers for many people to excecise their fundamental Constitutional right to vote."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire add a fee or mileage charge for electric vehicle owners to help pay for transportation and/or electric infrastructure?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should the state do more to encourage municipalities to remove zoning barriers to housing development?

"The housing issue will require cooperation between all three levels of government - local, state and federal government, as well as working with the non-profit sector and the business sector. Cooperation and a commitment to long term efforts between all the parties is needed. Removing zoning barriers at the municipal level is not the only issue."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire extend the renewable portfolio standard past 2025, requiring public utilities to obtain more than 25% of electricity from renewable energy sources?

"We should promote renewable energy. Renewable energy is cheaper than fossil fuels and will help us reduce the amount of CO2 we put into the atmosphere each year. This will help us reduce the impacts of climate change and ensure that New Hampshire remains a healthy place to live. New Hampshire is the only New England state that does not have a robust renewable energy program. We have the highest electricity rates in New England because there is no competition in the energy sector and we so reliant upon fossil fuels for electricity production."

Should New Hampshire guarantee the right to access abortion before 24 weeks?

"We should ensure that people have access to reproductive health care, access to contraception, and access to necessary public health care. We should codify the basic holding of Roe v. Wade into our state law, as is the case in all the other New England states."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the option of mail-in ballots for all voters, not just absentees?

"Voting is a fundamental right and we should work to make our voting system one that all eligible voters can easily participate in. Many people have lives that do not permit them to attend in-person voting on one specific day from 7 am to 7 pm. There are many valid and legitimate reasons it is not possible for many people to vote in person - reasons that are currently not listed as acceptable for voting by absentee ballot. Voting by absentee ballot is safe and secure and we should allow it to be used by everyone."

Should New Hampshire raise the minimum wage?

"Our minimum wage ($7.25) is the lowest in New England. All of the other New England states have a minimum wage that is $4 to $6 an hour higher than ours. We should raise our minimum wage to catch up with the other states in New England. This would help young people make a sustainable living, and allow us to attract and maintain workers to do necessary jobs in our state. This would help our economy grow and make our state more attractive for young people to stay here."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should the state permanently increase how much tax revenue it shares with towns and cities every year, beyond public school funding?

"The state government needs to be a reliable partner to the towns when it comes to municipal aid. Giving the towns a one-time increase (which is likely to then be cut in future years) is not the same thing as providing dependable funding from year to year. The question asks if there should be a permanent increase. The state does need to provide more funds to the towns and cities and just as importantly, need to be consistent in its assistance to the towns, so that towns can effectively plan their expenses."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the gradual phase-out of the Interests and Dividends tax?

"Half of the tax reduction from eliminating the Interest and Dividens tax will go to the top 1% of income earners in NH. That half of the tax reduction, which will go to the very wealthy, will cost the State of NH about $60 million a year in lost revenue. If we are going to reduce taxes, it would be better to provide a property tax break to people who are being taxed out of the homes they have lived in for decades because of high property taxes."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the state’s current system of public school funding, with each district’s total funding primarily dependent on local property tax revenue?

"There is a wide variation in property tax bases between towns and cities in NH. Relying primarily on the local property tax to fund schools leads to an inherent inequality in school funding levels between towns. This leads to inequity in educational opportunities based solely on what town is child lives in. This needs to be remedied. Under the NH Constitution, education is a fundamental right, and the State of NH has a duty to provide this education. If the State of NH lived up to this duty, it would be equitable and just for all children, and would be a beneficial investment in the future of our state."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire repeal the ban on abortion after 24 weeks gestation?

"We should ensure that people have access to reproductive health care, access to contraception, and access to necessary public health care. We should codify the basic holding of Roe v. Wade into our state law, as is the case in all the other New England states."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"There are reasonable gun safety measures that we can support in NH that are consistent with responsible gun ownership. Guns are the number one cause of death for teenagers in the US. In NH, someone dies from a gun every 2 or 3 days. Resonable gun safety measures would be: a short waiting period before purchasing a gun (this would help prevent many suicides), background checks on all gun purchases, strengthening the restrictions on gun possession by defendants in cases with temporary domestic violence protection orders, and not permitting guns in schools."
