Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?

"If a community already has a public education system that is adequate for students, I don't believe tax payer $ should support private schools unless the school system does not have the capacity to provide a proper education for their students. However, I believe the voters in each community should have the final say on how their school tax $ is spent. Some communities may have special cases where some flexibility will allow better options for students and families."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire ban abortion after 24 weeks gestation, with exceptions for cases of rape/incest and health complications?

"Undecided"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the first trimester (e.g. after 6 weeks gestation)?

"This isn't a decision for government. The right for a woman, doctor and family to decide takes a higher priority to me. Adequate sex education, better health care and offering prevention methods will cut down on unwanted pregnancies. Prevention of unwanted pregnancies should get greater attention than abortion."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the second trimester (e.g. after 15 weeks gestation)?

"This isn't a decision for government. The right for a woman, doctor and family to decide takes a higher priority to me. Adequate sex education, better health care and offering prevention methods will cut down on unwanted pregnancies. Prevention of unwanted pregnancies should get greater attention than abortion."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban discussions about sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K-3?

"I'm for discussing gender related issues. I also believe we should not pretend people are not who they are, belittle or embarrass anyone for who they are."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the state law that bans teaching certain concepts, such as the idea that people may be "inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously"?

"What is so bad that it should not be allowed to be discussed in schools? Students should be encouraged to openly discuss subjects that are part of our heritage and culture as well as part of current events. Freedom of speech is a big deal to me. Often a topic is about diversity. The more we understand people who are different than us, the better chance we can accept others."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"Because NH does not favor any new taxes, we often increase existing taxes. I believe legalizing Marijuana can add $ to our tax base. I also believe we should increase cigarette taxes to help pay for some of the health problems smokers end up with that require state and federal funding to help treat."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

"The tax system in NH needs to be looked at as home owners are getting strapped for much of the state revenue."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire add a tax credit for businesses that contribute to student loan repayment for employees?

"Most student loan programs missed the mark over the years and that needs to be looked at with more scrutiny. I favor something that helps students if a business also is involved."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

"I would agree to lowering taxes on businesses that are environmentally friendly and demonstrate the kind of leadership and stewardship of community that warrants recognition. I would lower taxes on businesses that have on the job training and other mentorship opportunities."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support giving voters who register without ID on Election Day a ballot that only counts if they return identifying documents to the state before a deadline?

"I'm not completely sure on this. I don't think it is asking too much for a voter to prove they are who they say they are as well as prove they are a resident."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire add a fee or mileage charge for electric vehicle owners to help pay for transportation and/or electric infrastructure?

"I'm inclined to say yes, but need to research more. People buying electric cars are helping to curb climate change and reliance of oil based fuels so we should not make charging too troublesome for those who own electric vehicles."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire add restrictions to the governor's powers during a state of emergency?

"Undecided"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should the state do more to encourage municipalities to remove zoning barriers to housing development?

"As with everything, zoning changes need to be thought out and fit the needs of the community. Affordable housing is a crisis. For far too long the state and many towns have not given enough thought to this problem. Because we don't have affordable housing, many people looking for work, can't afford to live in the community where potential work is."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire extend the renewable portfolio standard past 2025, requiring public utilities to obtain more than 25% of electricity from renewable energy sources?

"This needs to be looked at carefully. I agree with the intent, but not sure what percent is best. Utilities will need to have incentives to aggressively make changes. A commitment to renewables will support our tourist business and many other businesses by helping to cut down on pollution. NH needs to play a part in helping protect our natural resources and future and advocating renewables is the right thing to do."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire guarantee the right to access abortion before 24 weeks?

"This isn't a decision for government. The right for a woman, doctor and family to decide takes a higher priority to me. Do you support the option of mail-in ballots for all voters, not just absentees?

"We have a lot of citizens who getting to the polls is inconvenient and difficult so providing a mail in ballot option helps more people participate in democracy. I believe our current system is very safe and accurate so the mail-in option is fine."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should NH legalize the recreational use of marijuana?

"For"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by allowing home-growing and private use without sales?

"I think the state should start controlling this and after a few years, perhaps privatize it with close control. Some of the revenue from sales can be returned to the state for mental health care. The state will need to pay better attention to those who will have problems with use."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by licensing growers and private retail locations?

"I think the state should start controlling this and after a few years, perhaps privatize it with close control. Some of the revenue from sales can be returned to the state for mental health care. The state will need to pay better attention to those who will have problems with use."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire raise the minimum wage?

"Even though almost all businesses are paying well over the minimum wage at the current time, I feel raising the wage to at least 9$ an hour would show our state is not supporting well below poverty wages."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the gradual phase-out of the Interests and Dividends tax?

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

"Undecided"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the state’s current system of public school funding, with each district’s total funding primarily dependent on local property tax revenue?

"The current system is unfair to many communities so this is a tossup. No matter how we slice it, taxes to pay fo schools must come from somewhere. I believe the state has a greater responsibility to share more funds with communities."
