Position on Issues

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?

"This is a subsidy to people who had already placed their children in private or parochial schools, or were home schooling; they received 85% of the money. They are free to choose, but they should not ask taxpayers to pay for their decision not to use the public schools."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the first trimester (e.g. after 6 weeks gestation)?

"This is an issue of women's health care. The State has no business interfering. People need to be able to make their own health care decisions. If we give the State the power to say 'you may not have an abortion' then we also give the State the power to say 'you must have an abortion'. I do not want to State to have that power over anyone. The ban after 24 weeks is unnecessary. If a woman has carried the child that long she clearly intends to give birth. Only a major catastrophe like that child being dead, or suffering from a condition that makes it not viable would cause her to terminate the pregancy. The State intervention would only increase the pain and trauma of the loss."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the second trimester (e.g. after 15 weeks gestation)?

"This is an issue of women's health care. The State has no business interfering. People need to be able to make their own health care decisions. If we give the State the power to say 'you may not have an abortion' then we also give the State the power to say 'you must have an abortion'. I do not want to State to have that power over anyone. The ban after 24 weeks is unnecessary. If a woman has carried the child that long she clearly intends to give birth. Only a major catastrophe like that child being dead, or suffering from a condition that makes it not viable would cause her to terminate the pregancy. The State intervention would only increase the pain and trauma of the loss."

Should New Hampshire ban discussions about sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K-3?

"This is a solution in search of a problem. I have never heard of a teacher initiating such a discussion; and they should be able to respond if a child asks a question."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the state law that bans teaching certain concepts, such as the idea that people may be "inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously"?

"The law is an unwarranted intrusion by the state into classroom activities. It will do no good. No one teaches that anyone 'inherently' has certain attitudes. They have to be acquired. The law is a thinly veiled attempt to muzzle discussion of reality in our history."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"NH needs a new source of revenue to provide relief to the property tax payer. But the tax should not be stacked on top of existing taxes; the first amount of income received should be used to pay for public education at the same level the property tax now pays, and relieve the property; then any additional funds can be utilized for other state responibilities. An income tax is more fair than a sales tax,"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

"NH needs a new source of revenue to provide relief to the property tax payer. But the tax should not be stacked on top of existing taxes; the first amount of income received should be used to pay for public education at the same level the property tax now pays, and relieve the property; then any additional funds can be utilized for other state responsibilities. I do not favor a sales tax because it often is regressive. I do not think enough out of state visitors will pay it to offset the regressive nature of it."

"The State has been cutting business taxes for years with no benefit to the citizens of New Hampshire. I have not seen any major corporations rushing to set up their corporate HQ's here because of our low taxes. The lower revenue from cutting business taxes just puts more pressure on the property taxpayer to pay for services"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support giving voters who register without ID on Election Day a ballot that only counts if they return identifying documents to the state before a deadline?
