Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the government compel corporations to pay more in federal taxes, for example by closing “loopholes?”

"I am for closing loopholes but not for the ends stated in this question. I am for closing loopholes and simplifying the tax code to alleviate the burden of compliance. Our tax system should be simple and easy to understand."

Other, 2016

"One of his campaign objectives is 'to prove to Republicans and the political establishment' that too much money is spent in elections. In the 2014 Republican primary, Guinta and Innis, who challenged him, spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in the race.

"He said he doesn't believe in spending money on strategists, which he said takes up a bulk of campaign spending. Without the need for high-priced consultants, he said he will limit how much people can donate to him. 'I'm only going to accept $5 a person,' he said."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the federal government expand background checks for firearms sales?

"Gun Show and Internet loopholes are a myth and anyone who says otherwise should test those loopholes. Just be careful, because if you believe the rhetoric from the left and follow their claims of what is legal and not. You may end up in federal prison."

Other, 2016

"Gradert said taxes would have to be increased 20 percent 'across the board' just to balance the budget at current levels. His mission is to reduce 'out of control spending,' as well as working to increase the number of jobs in the economy."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Generally speaking, should the federal government give states more control over welfare/entitlement spending through block grants?

"The federal government should give states more control over entitlement spending through block grants."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the government do more to combat climate change, for example by restricting emissions, taxing carbon, or providing incentives to develop clean energy?

"A conscious and prudent consumer base will do far more to drive US markets in a cleaner and more sustainable direction than any government regulation or tax could ever achieve."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the federal government institute a flat income tax for all income brackets while eliminating many deductions?

"I agree with Trump's tax plan."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the federal government continue to fund Planned Parenthood?

"Planned Parenthood has demonstrated a lack of integrity and professionalism when it comes to its dealings. From their selling of baby parts to the commingling of taxpayer and political funds. Contrary to the narrative, they are not the only healthcare provider whose services benefit impoverished Americans. We need to take a closer look at other providers who in my opinion are far more deserving of federal funds."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the government enforce federal marijuana laws in states that have legalized marijuana?

"This is a states rights issue. The federal government should focus on securing our border and stopping the flow of drugs such as Heroin and Fentanyl that are actually harming our communities."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the federal government raise the minimum wage?

"We need to get the federal government out of our wallets, out of our businesses and off our backs. Raising the minimum wage is a step in wrong direction and a diversion from the real issue. We need quality jobs that pay well in our country and not just another feel good band-aid."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should higher income brackets pay more in federal taxes than they currently do?

"Higher income brackets should not pay more in federal taxes."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

How should the U.S. combat the Islamic State?

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the federal government increase spending on defense?

"The DoD needs to get its accounting together before we can increase any spending on defense. We need to have ability to honestly insure the American people that their tax dollars are being spent responsibly and effectively."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the federal government increase support for scientific research and development?

"That depends on what we exactly we fund. Spending $500,000 to study why people like spicy food is a pure and simple example of a bad funding decision."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the federal government increase funding for transportation infrastructure, such as road repair and highway expansion?

"We need a method of extreme accountability and accounting procedures for all infrastructure projects. A prime example of a total failure by government officials to be prudent and accountable was the big dig. That level of incompetence and fraud should never be acceptable. We cannot withstand even one more big dig nor any project that does not provide the best bang for the buck."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

"I oppose the privatization of Social Security."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the federal government reform Social Security by raising the retirement age from today's age of 67?

"We need to focus on the bigger issue. The historically low workforce participation rate can be definitively linked to solvency issues at the Social Security Administration. With over 94 million Americans not participating in the workforce and as a consequence, not paying into the Social Security system. More and better jobs is the answer, not tinkering with the retirement age."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the federal government repeal the Affordable Care Act/”Obamacare” entirely and start again?

"Absolutely, a free market driven system with consumers being able to purchase and use insurance in any state will drive down premiums. Empowering Americans to make the choices as to what insurer or doctor is best for them, can only lead to positive results. Consumers drive the markets not the government."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should the federal government allow student loan payments to be reduced based on income?

"Rather than focusing on income or ability to repay student loans. We should get to the bottom of what's driving the ever increasing cost of tuition and take the critical steps needed to provide relief for our students."
