Position on Issues

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should NH pursue expanded commuter rail?

"I oppose expanded commuter rail. If commuter rail were a viable business model, then we would already have one. It would cost the taxpayers millions."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should NH limit terms for elected officials?

"Let the voters be in control of term limits. If an official is not doing his or her job, the voters will decide that."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should NH increase funding for heroin treatment programs?

"Yes, as long as the majority of the funding comes from the forfeiture of the assets of the drug dealers and their associates."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

What was the best decision made by the Executive Council in the past two years?

"The Councils tribute to former Council member Ray Burton."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

"I believe at the end of the day, we must have a way to measure the success of our education system. But these measurement systems must be by local control, not the state of NH."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

What do you think of the dollar limit on the size of state contracts that must be reviewed by the Executive Council?

"The $10,000 limit is appropriate."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

What is your position on accepting federal grant money related to the online health insurance exchange?

"For the sitting Executive Council to have approved a $300 million contract without first reading and understanding it in its entirety is absolutely dereliction of their sworn duty. Many of the unintended consequences we now face with the ACA were because no one read the Bill to strip out the parts that do not make sense or are just plain unrealistic, period. This Administration has had a great deal of difficulty telling the truth regarding the ACA so tabling the contract until everyone could read it was the right thing to do. To accept the contract along party lines without the proper vetting is completely unacceptable. I have always believed and continue to believe that each state should control the delivery of healthcare utilizing the private sector companies, not the Federal Government as is the case with the ACA."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

When approving a state purchase or contract, which is most important?

"All contracts should be read carefully and approved or disapproved on their merits. Hundreds of millions of contracts are reviewed and acted upon by the EC each year and proper due diligence will make certain the Taxpayers best interests are an important part of the decision process. After all, each Council member represents 250,000 constituents, not special interests or the Governor's pet projects or polices."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should NH increase law enforcement policies and penalties for heroin-related offenses?

"I support increased law enforcement policies and penalties for heroin-related offenses. As long as these policies include drug courts and additional rehab centers, not funded by the taxpayers, but rather by the forfeiture of the assets of the drug dealers"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should NH legalize the recreational use of marijuana?

"I oppose marijuana legalization. I believe marijuana is still a gateway drug and should not be legalized."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Was NH right to expand Medicaid eligibility, using private insurance wherever possible?

"NH must be allowed to have all of the federal monies block granted to the state and allow NH to administer the process 50,000 people cannot be left behind, but a system that encourages people not to work is not the answer either."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should NH do more to enforce federal immigration laws?

"I support increased state enforcement of federal immigration laws. NH's congressional delegation must make certain that the federal government does its job by enforcing the law, which does not seem to be the case at present."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2016

Should NH allow the Northern Pass to proceed with some (not all) of the lines buried?

"I oppose the Northern Pass as currently proposed. NH must first receive 30% of the newfound power and the lines must be buried to protect our second largest industry - tourism."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

When making an appointment, how much should the Executive Council consider a nominee's political beliefs?

"The nominees brought before the Council should be considered relative to their experience and their job knowledge and they should not be involved in ongoing litigation against the State during the process. Political beliefs should be considered but it is not the most important element of the process."
