Position on Issues

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should New Hampshire ban abortion after 20 weeks gestation, with exceptions for cases of rape/incest and health complications?

"I personally am against abortion unless there is a medical reason or the welfare of the child comes into question. It should not be up to me or the government to make that choice; it should be left with the individual."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire ban abortion after 24 weeks gestation, with exceptions for cases of rape/incest and health complications?
"I am personally against abortion but this is not an issue the government should be involved with. People should not get their morals from the government nor should people use the government to force their own morals on other people."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should NH pursue expanded commuter rail?

"I like the idea of having an expanded commuter rail, but the big question will be where the funds will come from and how many people will lose their home or business. The only way that I would support it is if it was privately funded and there was no theft of property."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should NH limit terms for elected officials?

"I support term limits for New Hampshire elected officials."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should NH increase funding for heroin treatment programs?

"A better option would be to reduce the barriers for opening rehabilitation centers and ending the Drug War. Throwing more money at this now is not fixing the problem and it is just attracting opportunistic people who are exploiting this crisis."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

"Many self-employed individuals and small businesses, who should not be taxed in the first place, get hit the hardest by the current business taxes currently in place. Allowing the state to blindside individuals and smaller businesses is not going to help with recovery."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire add a tax on capital gains?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire increase the tax on cigarettes?

"Increased taxes won't change the behaviour of people and exploits those with less means."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire add restrictions to the governor's powers during a state of emergency?

"For"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire extend the renewable portfolio standard past 2025, requiring public utilities to obtain more than 25% of electricity from renewable energy sources?
"Many of the sources of 'renewable' energy being pushed would have a negative impact on the environment or use slave labor to obtain the materials. Our one shot at clean, and almost unlimited, hydroelectric power was killed with the north pass project."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire increase public access to reports of police misconduct?
"Police need to be fully held accountable for their actions and without any special privileges or immunity that the rest of us don't have."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Do you support the option of mail-in ballots for all voters, not just absentees?
"Not until the current system is fixed and upgraded."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should NH legalize the recreational use of marijuana?

"For"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Was New Hampshire right to continue expanded Medicaid eligibility, using the traditional Medicaid system of managed care instead of private insurance?

"This issue is a double edge sward. Medicaid is not a sustainable system since it is a cash grab by incentivized parties and is rife with waste / abuse. Private insurance companies have special government monopolies that don't allow competition in this area and have an incentive to drive health care costs through the roof. Ideally, other options should put on the table; our current system and government provided health care is not the answer."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire raise the minimum wage?

"Minimum wage allows employers to take away leverage from employees to negotiate what their work is worth. The market should decide what an acceptable wage and benefits for a particular job should be."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should NH do more to enforce federal immigration laws?

"I oppose increased state enforcement of federal immigration laws."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

"The government should never give handouts or special treatment to businesses of any kind."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire increase the base amount of per-pupil funding it provides to local school districts?
"Local school districts across the state and those who financially benefit have already taken enough from the communities they serve. Unsustainable benefits, poorly managed budgets and wasteful spending have contributed to funding issues. Where I live in Keene, my property taxes have gone up $2k in just the last 4 years with more tax hikes promised from the school district. Focus should be on education and not proposing millions to be poured into a stadium."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Is police brutality an issue in NH?

"State government should take action to reduce police brutality in New Hampshire, for example by requiring body cameras or limiting the ability of police to acquire military equipment."

"For"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire continue to participate in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which requires utilities to purchase allowances for every ton of carbon they emit?

"All this does is incentive more pollution without addressing the issue and hurts people with less means with higher utilities."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should New Hampshire maintain the renewable portfolio standard, which requires public utilities in New Hampshire to obtain a certain percentage of electricity from renewable energy sources (25% by 2025)?

"I support the renewable portfolio standard in New Hampshire."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire create a road usage fee?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should New Hampshire government do more to increase the supply of affordable housing?

"Market forces should decide housing supply and costs. Many unreasonable regulations should be lifted since they make it more difficult to provide lower cost housing. One example is the minimum square footage laws / ordinances that makes it illegal to live in mobile homes or tiny homes in many parts of the state."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018

Should NH continue to administer statewide standards-based student assessments?

"I am undecided on this issue."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire create a statewide family and medical leave program, paid for with a percentage of employee wages, with no opt-out?

"This should be negotiated before the start of employment and not a mandate."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"Everyone should have the right to defend themselves and their families. It is never acceptable to sacrifice a fundamental right for what would be no provided safety."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire provide student loan debt repayment programs for workers in industries with labor shortages?
"The government should not be incentivizing the way that institutions of higher education exploit young people and push them to make bad decisions. The cost of higher education is ridiculous and giving handouts only gives these institutions a free blank check from the state. On the job training and technical programs should be pushed."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire add tax incentives for affordable housing development?
"Zoning laws, in conjunction with local real estate monopolies, are what creates shortages and expensive housing. More lax zoning laws and competition would go much further to creating more affordable housing."

Should New Hampshire allocate tax revenues for private and home schooling costs?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2018
