From June 21 through June 28, roughly 1,500 Libertarians and friends will gather in Lancaster, New Hampshire for the annual Porcupine Freedom Festival.

"PorcFest," organized by the Free State Project, is a combination of seminars, parties, outdoor recreation, and vendors meant to highlight what New Hampshire has to offer libertarian-minded individuals.

The Festival's website describes the Free State Project as "an agreement among 20,000 participants to move to New Hampshire, where they will work together to create a society in which the maximum role of government is the protection of life, liberty, and property."

So-called "Free Staters" are active at the local and state level.  Most recently, the New Hampshire Supreme Court upheld the right of a group of Free Staters to follow parking enforcement officers in Keene, plug meters, and verbally challenge officers about their jobs.

Crosby Peck, who owns a campground that hosts PorcFesters, told the Union Leader that his Free State guests are "fantastic people" who leave the campground "even nicer than when they came in."

Not everyone in New Hampshire is a fan of Free Staters, however.  In 2013 Rep. Cynthia Chase posted a blog saying, "Free Staters are the single biggest threat the state is facing today."  Also in 2013, Concord police referenced the Free State Project in an application for an armored Bearcat vehicle.
