Position on Issues

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Was NH right to raise the gas tax in 2014?

Possible revenue sources: "Gasoline Tax; gas tax needs to be 30% of pump cost. I am opposed to any new or increased taxes (other than gas tax) - we should just control our spending."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Was NH right to ban hand-held cell phone use while driving?

"Both laws need to be repealed - the hands free law before it goes into effect. The danger of using hands free is the same as hand held. Texting will only stop through education - teach everyone to turn off their phone when they get into a vehicle."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

Possible revenue sources: "Gasoline Tax; gas tax needs to be 30% of pump cost. I am opposed to any new or increased taxes (other than gas tax) - we should just control our spending."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

Possible revenue sources: "Gasoline Tax; gas tax needs to be 30% of pump cost. I am opposed to any new or increased taxes (other than gas tax) - we should just control our spending."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH authorize one or more casinos?

"Opposed to the state using gambling as a 'tax on stupidity.' In favor of allowing all gambling as long as there are no casinos and all money wagered is returned as prizes, minus actual administrative costs - no one can ever use gambling as a source of income. Gambling winnings can never be taxed as income, but is instead considered entertainment."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH continue to base statewide assessments on Common Core standards?

"The adoption of any testing criteria should be decided upon by local school boards. Strongly oppose Common Core. We need to actively encourage all states to reject Common Core."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH decriminalize small amounts of marijuana?

"The possession of small quantities of marijuana should not be a crime. Marijuana is a plant, not a drug, and no plant can ever be criminalized. Drugs, though, are solely a medical issue, not a criminal issue, and the response needs to be by doctors, not police. Police cannot enforce manufacturing and distribution, not possession or use."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH broaden campaign finance disclosure laws?

"We need full disclosure of the individuals or entities financing political campaigns. We need full disclosure of the individuals or entities financing all politically-related advertising. This is a federal issue. We need a constitutional amendment to allow defining spending and contribution laws and need to limit contributions to individuals, and to no more than $20, including by the candidates."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH provide more funding for charter schools?

"All schools and homeschooling needs to receive whatever funding is spent on public schools. Home schooling qualified as a school tax exemption."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Do employees in NH need more legal protections in the workplace?

"Revoke all state laws about employment. Federal law will still prevent child employment, and so on."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH add restrictions on welfare recipients?

Regarding drug tests for welfare recipients: "I oppose such legislation. This is the stupidest proposal ever. The reason some of them are on welfare is they use drugs and can not get a job."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH allow the Northern Pass to proceed with some (not all) of the lines buried?

"I would consider supporting the Northern Pass Project with appropriate modifications to the plan. It needs to be underground, and not have any visible above ground right of way."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH continue to use property taxes instead of a new broad-based tax, such as an income tax?

Possible revenue sources: "Gasoline Tax; gas tax needs to be 30% of pump cost. I am opposed to any new or increased taxes (other than gas tax) - we should just control our spending."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should New Hampshire continue to participate in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which requires utilities to purchase allowances for every ton of carbon they emit?

"NH should withdraw from RGGI and structure its own energy strategy. This is a federal issue. NH needs to require 100% net metering, but so do all states, so this needs to be federal, and not state law."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH require car insurance for some or all drivers?

"I oppose legislation that would mandate insurance in order to register a vehicle. I oppose using personal license and registration, and restrict licensing and registration of vehicles to commercial vehicles. Persons wishing to travel to other states may voluntarily receive a drivers license and register their vehicle, but neither are required within NH."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH require labels on some or all genetically modified foods?

"NH does not need any laws about employment, other than banning all public sector unions!"

"This is primarily a federal issue, but NH has the highest median income in New England now, even with losing so many jobs overseas."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"I oppose limits on assault weapons. What part of 'shall not be infringed' do people not understand?"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2014

Should NH restrict further wind power development?

"I believe we should move forward with appropriate wind power projects utilizing the present review process. Build a row of wind turbines along the Mount Washington Auto Road."
