"I believe in personal responsibility and, correspondingly this is each person's choice. However, no person should have to suffer a consequence of someone else's marijuana use. Therefore, if someone is irresponsible and shows up for work under the influence, it should be an uncontestable ground for dismissal. Also, since marijuana today is engineered like GMO's for greater strength, some oversight on the potency should be factored in."

"I agree with bans on bump stocks and with providing better background checking mechanisms to close the loopholes that exist at gun shows. There are also red flag laws being explored that could be very helpful at keeping guns out of the hands of those who may pose an immediate threat. However, in so much as the Second Amendment is written such that the right to bear arms 'shall not be infringed,' we cannot dig in our heels on both sides expecting huge changes. We must find ways to address gun violence separate from the Second Amendment that can be implemented with bipartisan support now, such as that mentioned in my response to question 2, above."

"Shepard said he 'did not want to do anything to hurt our public schools,' and said he was in favor of a voucher system."

"'Some people are not a good fit for a public school, but rather than focus on what money we're getting for (the school system),' Shepard said. 'Don't think of it so much as what are we getting in terms of money, that's not money for the school system, that's the money to educate the children.'
