Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"I support a tax shift away from property taxes which are a burden on working and middle class people and makes it hard for seniors on fixed incomes to stay in their homes, and for working families to pay their mortgage. It's true that the wealthiest people pay even more in property taxes because they have more expensive homes. But they often end up with a lower property tax rate and come out on top by not paying an income tax. Perhaps repealing the interest and dividends tax and rolling back some of the business tax cuts will be enough. It's unfortunate that it seems impossible to have a real conversation about income tax as part of our whole tax structure which is regressive and benefits the wealthy, not the average citizen. We might consider taxing high level capital gains and wealth such as Washington State, but very hard to do at the state level as the wealthiest people are so good at sheltering their assets. We are becoming a state in which extremely wealthy individuals build a lake house, declare their residency, and stay a few weeks a summer, just to avoid state income taxes. Other than the initial construction, this does not help the economy of the local community. Meanwhile, the rest of us have to pay ever increasing property taxes."

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

"We have already cut business taxes enough. We can never decrease property taxes if we keep cutting all other sources of revenue. If anything we should consider increasing business taxes, especially if we do it in a way that most of the increase is paid by the multi-national corporations (who benefitted the most from the business tax cuts of the last ten years). Perhaps this can be done by credits for local and state businesses that benefit their own community and state."

"I support changes in zoning to allow more urban in-fill which supports local businesses and encourages more walkable communities. Greater density combined with public open spaces is the way to go."

"While I agree that nuclear power may help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, I am still wary of the unresolved nuclear waste and safety concerns. I need to learn more about this to commit one way or another. I am more interested in expanding wind and solar energy production."

"The repeal of this tax benefitted the wealthiest amongst us. We need a tax package the helps ordinary people. Taxes are the only means we have to serve the public good, and provide investment in things we value: protecting our environment, public education, and infrastructure for example. All these functions of state government support and strengthen our economy for generations to come. Continued tax cuts for the wealthy come at the cost of decreased investment in the common good for all."

"I don't believe we have a problem with non-citizens voting. Undocumented immigrants do anything they can to stay in the shadows. For most of us, bringing a birth certificate or passport to register is not a problem. However, I have experienced, when registering my elderly mother, who moved to NH in 2024, that I was unable to locate her birth certificate and she only had an expired passport. These laws will end up making it harder for your grandmother and many other citizens to vote. We need to at least keep the affidavit system. We already have a problem with not enough people voting in this country. We need to make it easier, not more difficult."

"This plan would create chaos for school systems. It would also mostly benefit families who are able to provide their own transportation to other districts. It is also disruptive of local school community which I value."
