Position on Issues

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?
"For the current school year, my town (Hudson) is paying 263 students to NOT go to our public schools, at an average cost of $5200. That totals $1.4M, which goes directly onto our property tax bills."

Should New Hampshire’s anti-discrimination law allow segregation based on biological sex in some settings, such as bathrooms and locker rooms?

"This issue is bogus, trumped up by right wingers to generate anger and divide voters. In my town, a young woman was on the high school football team (early 2000s), and there was no controversy of any kind. Despite all the furor over this issue, the discussion never seems to come down to any specific issue -- Are you worried about little girls competing with 200-pound men? Are you worried that 'alpha males' want to get into the locker room to rape their teammates? -- which are usually ridiculous upon consideration. Given that my wife was a Women's Health nurse practitioner, I understand that there are more cases of ambiguous gender than most people realize, and these people are not simply freaks, but human beings deserving of our support."

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the first trimester (e.g. after 6 weeks gestation)?

"My wife spent her career as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, so I am aware of both the issues confronting women regarding pregnancy as well as the medical responses to those problem situations. I believe that our medical system deals with problem pregnancies responsibly and ethically, and any effort to interfere politically results in harm to women. I respect that some people have a religious objection, but their personal beliefs -- no matter how strongly held -- are not the rightful basis of laws infringing on the rights of women."

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the second trimester (e.g. after 15 weeks gestation)?
"My wife spent her career as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, so I am aware of both the issues confronting women regarding pregnancy as well as the medical responses to those problem situations. I believe that our medical system deals with problem pregnancies responsibly and ethically, and any effort to interfere politically results in harm to women. I respect that some people have a religious objection, but their personal beliefs -- no matter how strongly held -- are not the rightful basis of laws infringing on the rights of women."

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

"The incremental reductions made to the Business Enterprise and Business Profits taxes have drained $150M per year from the state's revenues, without any measurable benefit to NH's economy. According to the NH Fiscal Policy Institute, all of the other New England states outperformed NH on business growth."

Should the state do more to encourage municipalities to remove zoning barriers to housing development?
"Undecided"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Should New Hampshire do more to encourage the development of nuclear power, including small modular reactors (SMR), in the state?

"This is a solution that doesn't solve any problem. NH should develop a thoughtful energy policy based on up-to-date information, which could deliver savings and improved reliability to our citizens. SMR is a political football, not an energy policy."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Do you support legislation to expand the net energy metering system capacity cap from 1 MW to 5 MW for all residential and commercial customers in New Hampshire?

"Expanding renewable energy generation is far cheaper and more effective than Governor Ayotte's Small Modular Reactor initiative, which is a boondoggle."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Should New Hampshire restore funding for the Office of the Child Advocate?

"For"

Should New Hampshire guarantee the right to access abortion before 24 weeks?

"My wife spent her career as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, so I am aware of both the issues confronting women regarding pregnancy as well as the medical responses to those problem situations. I believe that our medical system deals with problem pregnancies responsibly and ethically, and any effort to interfere politically results in harm to women. Should New Hampshire reinstate the interest and dividends tax?

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Do you support New Hampshire’s current system of public school funding, with about two-thirds of total funding coming from local property taxes?

"After the Claremont ruling, NH provided about 40% of the cost of public schools to the towns and municipalities. Today it is down to 28%, and no doubt the Free State-heavy Republican majority will continue to whittle it down to 0%, under their objective to make the entire cost of education fall on the parents. With an average cost of $22,000+ per student per year, offloading this burden to parents would devastate our quality of life -- but as we've seen, that's not an issue for Free Staters."

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by allowing home-growing and private use without sales?

Should New Hampshire require new voters to provide proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a birth certificate or passport, when registering to vote?

"The Trump-era furor over the non-existent problem of fraudulent voting is another bogus issue meant to inflame and divide us. I am certainly in favor of proving citizenship via Real ID or other means when first registering to vote, but I oppose any effort to suppress voting or purge legitimate voters from the rolls over spurious issues."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Should New Hampshire allow at least 10% of students in each school district to enroll in a different public school, regardless of where they live?

"The entire 'school choice' issue strikes me as a shell game designed to raise chaos in public education. I suspect that the Free State-heavy Republican majority is using this as a way to game the system: Move into a town next door to one with great schools, send your children to their schools and gut the schools in your own town."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Should New Hampshire repeal the ban on abortion after 24 weeks gestation?

"My wife spent her career as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, so I am aware of both the issues confronting women regarding pregnancy as well as the medical responses to those problem situations. I believe that our medical system deals with problem pregnancies responsibly and ethically, and any effort to interfere politically results in harm to women. Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Should state law cap how much local school districts can increase their budget each year?

"Given the Republicans' long-standing praise of local control -- in this case, a town's elected school board and budget committee -- it's funny that they want to override local control in this case. Especially given the history of starving the municipalities of state funding, with the town having to make up the difference through property taxes, this bill seeks to introduce chaos into school administration. I oppose the anarchy agenda."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"While I think that NH has not had a gun violence problem, I am aware that many mass school shootings have been averted by towns, and I favor efforts that improve our towns' ability to prevent them."
