Do you support New Hampshire’s current system of public school funding, with about two-thirds of total funding coming from local property taxes?
"NO! Property taxes are a very bad form of taxation that hurts the working class more than anything, and encourages wasting land in cities (like Manchester and Nashua) to avoid paying taxes on valuable land, leaving the rest of the state (like Fremont) to pick up the slack. Instead, we should move to an offset land value tax (OLVT) system. This is where we do not tax the buildings/improvements on a property, only the value of the land. This penalizes wasting land in dense areas, and encourages cities to build spaces for businesses and housing. The 'offset' means, **if a property is the primary residence of the owner**, there is a deduction on the taxable land value of some amount. I'd propose $60,000. There would be an overall minimum OLVT rate. There would be a statewide rate of 80% of the minimum total rate; Towns and cities would be responsible for setting a rate of at minimum 20% of the total minimum rate. For example, if the statewide rate is 12.5%, there would be a statewide rate of precisely 80% of that, in this case, 10%. Towns and cities would set a separate rate, which must be at least the remaining 2.5%. Towns and cities may vote to raise it if they choose, but I of course would suggest to everyone to never raise taxes unless absolutely necessary."Undecided| Read My Position
