"The minimum wage can never change. No matter what arbitrary number the government sets it at, the true minimum wage will always be $0. Raising the minimum wage increases the overhead costs of doing business, and encourages automation as the costs of labor grow to exceed the costs of innovation. By raising the minimum wage, all we succeed in doing is pricing unskilled laborers out of the job market, and harming the already downtrodden in our society. While viewing wages as a ladder to be climbed, removing the bottom rungs simply adds premium to the experience needed to reach the new bottom which is set higher than most can jump. we should endeavor to add rungs, and aid people in climbing the ladder, rather than making it harder to start. Minimum wage jobs are essential for young people to build job experience and get introduced to the job market. The focus of economic growth should be increasing the number of higher paying skilled jobs, as opposed to simply raising the floor of pay."
