Position on Issues

Candidate's Website, 2021

"Our Founding Fathers understood the crucial importance of firearms to guarantee the individual right of all Americans to defend themselves and their property. I know that Democrat-backed attempts to burden legal gun owners with mountains of paperwork and licensing requirements only makes it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to purchase and own a firearm, and does nothing to prevent criminals from acquiring them.

"I will oppose misleading “red flag laws,” and fight back against Democrats’ efforts to run firearm and ammunition manufacturers out of business through endless litigation and overregulation. The Second Amendment clearly guarantees the right to keep and bear arms, and the federal government shall never pass legislation that makes the exercise of that right more difficult."

"I was proud to work for President Trump and help him drain the corrupt swamp in Washington D.C. To further that mission, I pledge to co-sponsor a constitutional amendment imposing term limits on Members of Congress. An overwhelming majority of Americans support Congressional term limits, because we are all tired of career, out of touch politicians! Term limits will allow innovative new leaders, like myself, who aren’t owned by lobbyists and special interest groups to pass new ideas that make our government work again."

"I will also be a vocal and fierce advocate for demanding academic excellence and respect for parental rights in our public schools. Tax-payer funded teachers should be educating, not indoctrinating. I will continue to advocate for a ban on Critical Race Theory and other racist, divisive ideologies from plaguing our classrooms and our culture. Public schools must challenge students academically, hold them to rigorous standards, teach them to respect one another, stand for our flag, and love our country."

WMUR, 2022

"Immediately stop all spending in Congress and fight to pass a balanced budget by pledging not to vote for an increase to the debt ceiling. As a young American whose generation will have to pay for the unmitigated spending coming out of Washington, fiscal conservatism is personal to me. I will always vote against recklessly stealing from taxpayers in New Hampshire's 1st District for useless government pet projects."

"I will protect qualified immunity, listen to our police officers on the issue of crime above all, and always support the thin blue line!"

Other, 2022

When asked about the child care shortage at a WMUR debate, Leavitt said, "Yes, this is a huge issue, of course, for mothers and fathers across the district right now who are struggling with, grappling with inflation. 8.2%. Our small business community is being crushed. Working moms and dads are really hurting. I support the child tax credit."

WMUR, 2022

"I am proudly pro-life and I'm one of the few candidates in this race to publicly applaud the overturning of Roe v Wade, because what it did is it returned this right, this issue to we, the people here in our great state of New Hampshire. Now, in our recent budget, as everyone at home watching knows, we passed a 24 week ban on abortion. Personally, I'd like to see that taken a step further. But I believe in the constitution and I believe in the Supreme Court's decisions, and I hope that we will elect pro-life to the state House and Concord to make those decisions for the people here."

"The Declaration of Independence, our nation’s founding document, lists the right to life as the first among “inalienable” rights granted to us by our Creator. Without the right to life, no other right matters. As a member of Congress, I will be a fearless pro-life advocate to defend the lives of the unborn and speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves."

"I will always fight to CUT taxes, and I pledge to oppose ANY tax increase because hard-working families across our state deserve to keep MORE of their hard earned money, not less. I was proud to work in the Trump Administration as we delivered historic tax cuts, benefiting millions of American families just like my own and creating one of the most robust economies in history."

WMUR, 2022

At WMUR debate on September 6, Leavitt said, "This administration launched a war on our domestic energy production day one. Joe Biden canceled the Keystone XL pipeline. I was proud to work in President Trump's White House when we hosted a press conference announcing that we were for the first time in our nation's history a net exporter of oil. And we did that by tapping into the resources that God blessed us with here in the United States of America. We need to reverse the policies of the Biden administration and relaunch our American energy independence."

"I will support lowering our corporate tax rate to make America competitive again in the global marketplace and increase job opportunities here at home, rather than abroad."

"I will oppose all efforts to federalize our elections, mandate universal mail-in voting, politicize the Federal Election Commission, and all other Democrat power grabs like those found in H.R.1."

Other, 2022

In the Good Morning NH debate on August 23, Karoline Leavitt said, "At the federal level I do not [favor legalizing marijuana]."

Other, 2022

At a debate hosted by the Manchester Chamber of Commerce in October Leavitt said, "My health care solutions will be to increase competition in the marketplace to ensure there's more competition, which will in turn lower costs for you the consumer and then results in better care for all. We've seen Chris Pappas support greater government involvement in our health care system time and time again, which is minimizing the flexibility of our state and the affordability of consumers like you. And I will also support small businesses like my family's in grouping together to increase their negotiating power against the government. We need to also allow consumers to purchase insurance, health insurance across state lines. That will be a huge, huge priority for me when I'm elected to Congress. And then thirdly, if I may, I think I'm going over my time here, but price transparency efforts as well. The health care system is one of the only systems in the world where you can shop for a good or a service, not know the price of that good or service until after you purchase it. We need to push for tangible solutions to ensure transparency for healthcare costs."

Should the federal government amend the Affordable Care Act/"Obamacare" by allowing citizens to opt into Medicare if they so choose?

"I will fight to end the Biden Border Crisis by proposing legislation that has ZERO tolerance for illegal immigration, finishing construction of the border wall, and empowering our brave immigration law enforcement officers to do the jobs they’re trained to do. And I will NEVER support amnesty for individuals who broke our laws to come here."

WMUR, 2022

"Candidate Karoline Leavitt said that if she was serving in Congress, she would have been a firm 'no' against the $40 billion in aid.

"'It is my goal to represent the needs of the people of New Hampshire, not the people of Ukraine, and right now, the people of New Hampshire are facing record-high inflation. There are mothers in this state that cannot find baby formula. There are restaurant owners who cannot afford to buy food to put it on their menus this summer,' she said."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support a new wealth tax that would require households worth over $100 million to pay a 20% tax on their income and unrealized capital gains?

Other, 2022

At an October debate Leavitt said, "For anyone who has payed into the social security system, my parents, my grandparents, many of us who have been working, I will always vote to protect your benefits. That was a promise that was made to you and I will always keep that promise in Congress. However, unlike Chris Pappas, and many politicians in Washington D.C., I'm also looking out for your children and your grandchildren. Elementary school kids here in America, we are mortgaging their future. And Mr. Pappas just said he supports endlessly raising taxes to continue supporting the system. ... There are a plethora of solutions that have been proposed. I will certainly look into them when I am a member of Congress and help to pass them so that we can ensure a sustainable retirement system for future generations."

"Everywhere you look in our society, free speech is under attack. Radical Democrats, the liberal mainstream media, and big tech giants in Silicon Valley are attempting to silence and censor conservative viewpoints. Companies like Twitter, Facebook, and Google should not get to arbitrarily decide what people can and cannot say online. During the 2020 election, social media companies worked in coordination with one another and the liberal media to suppress information critical of Joe Biden and push misleading information critical of President Trump. If they can silence a sitting United States President, they can silence anyone. I know this first hand -- Twitter suspended my personal account in May of 2021 for posting about my conservative beliefs. I beat Big Tech then, and I will continue to speak up for others who have been unfairly silenced and fight to break up giant internet companies. I will also push for provisions to protect free speech on college campuses in all federal education funding, and hold federally-funded institutions accountable when they try to use the power of the government to intimidate conservatives."

WMUR, 2022

"As a recent college graduate myself, I am vehemently opposed to the socialist policy to cancel student loan debt. These debts would later be paid in more inflation and higher taxes. Personal responsibility is the bedrock of our capitalist economy, and the government should never force lower-income Americans to subsidize the expensive educational decisions of a few."

Other, 2022

At an October debate Leavitt said, "We have bureaucrats in Washington trying to control everything in our lives, and the Federal Reserve is no different. We've seen them continually hike interest rates over the past couple of years, under Joe Biden's leadership, to keep up with the cost of living. So we need reforms for the Federal Reserve."

Other, 2022

When asked about climate change at an October debate, Leavitt said, "I don't believe it's the duty of the federal government to take billions of taxpayer dollars to solve these programs. These are challenges that are best solved at the state and local level and via the free market."

Other, 2022

In the Good Morning NH debate on August 23, Karoline Leavitt said, "It must be an immediate priority of this Congress to secure the border. We can do that by building the wall, by reimplementing the Remain in Mexico policy that President Trump orchestrated, we need to end amnesty and catch-and-release, which is a disastrous policy, especially for our our inner cities, and anyone who crosses into our country illegally must be deported and sent home, because you are a criminal."
