Position on Issues

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?

"I am strongly against the voucher program. It takes taxpayer money from our town to pay for private or religious education, that may or may not meet standards for an adequate and honest education, in a program that cost $8M more than anticipated, managed by an out of state firm that has a poor track record and inadequate oversight."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire ban abortion after 24 weeks gestation, with exceptions for cases of rape/incest and health complications?

"The decision to terminate a pregnancy is between a woman and her doctor."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the first trimester (e.g. after 6 weeks gestation)?

"No one knows the path a pregnancy will take. The decision to start a family or end a pregnancy is an intensely personal one, and has no place being made in the legislative chambers. Abortion is a vital element of reproductive health care and should be safe and accessible."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the second trimester (e.g. after 15 weeks gestation)?

"No one knows the path a pregnancy will take. The decision to start a family or end a pregnancy is an intensely personal one, and has no place being made in the legislative chambers. Abortion is a vital element of reproductive health care and should be safe and accessible."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban discussions about sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K-3?

"Science tells us children are exploring many sides of their identity from very young age. Children are being raised in homes with loving parents who may be in same sex marriages, may be transgender or identify in non traditional ways. To pretend otherwise is naive, and risks shaming them on the basis of who they are and who they love. We can teach respect and compassion."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the state law that bans teaching certain concepts, such as the idea that people may be "inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously"?

"I want our children taught an evidence based curriculum developed by professional educators. I want them to learn about our history in a manner that celebrates our successes but also discusses our failures so that we may hold ourselves accountable and learn from our mistakes. I don't want our teachers to have to parse ambiguous guidelines or fear having their teaching credentials pulled for teaching the truth."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

"We can no longer rely solely on property tax to fund schools and other municipal needs. We need to at least consider other sources of revenue, whether that is via a sales tax, increased business taxes or retail cannabis."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire add a tax credit for businesses that contribute to student loan repayment for employees?

"Student debt is crippling. If this would ease some of that burden and provide incentive for young employees, I would support it."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire increase the tax on cigarettes?

"We should tax e-cigarettes as we do other tobacco products."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire government do more to address climate change?

"Climate change is undeniable, as we head into yet another year of severe weather and drought. Awareness, education and policy change are needed at the federal, state and local level."

"For"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should the state do more to encourage municipalities to remove zoning barriers to housing development?

"Our community is facing a lot of challenges due to over development. The housing being built is not workforce or affordable housing, and the rate of growth is jeopardizing natural resources, especially water."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire extend the renewable portfolio standard past 2025, requiring public utilities to obtain more than 25% of electricity from renewable energy sources?

"For"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

"Accountability benefits us all."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the option of mail-in ballots for all voters, not just absentees?

"We've seen an effort to restrict access to voting across the country. The pandemic made it clear we need secure, flexible, accessible methods for every citizen eligible to vote to do so."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should NH legalize the recreational use of marijuana?

"NH needs the tax revenue this will provide."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by allowing home-growing and private use without sales?

"The NH Liquor Commission is the only state agency truly capable of administering a retail cannabis industry in NH. I'd rather see retail cannabis sold at selected state liquor stores than cannabis shops all over the state. We are seeing illicit product spiked with fentanyl and other drugs; a regulated product and market would be safer and would bring in revenue, some of which must be designated for prevention education and substance use disorder treatment."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by licensing growers and private retail locations?

"The NH Liquor Commission is the only state agency truly capable of administering a retail cannabis industry in NH. I'd rather see retail cannabis sold at selected state liquor stores than cannabis shops all over the state. We are seeing illicit product spiked with fentanyl and other drugs; a regulated product and market would be safer and would bring in revenue, some of which must be designated for prevention education and substance use disorder treatment."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by establishing state-run cannabis stores?

"The NH Liquor Commission is the only state agency truly capable of administering a retail cannabis industry in NH. I'd rather see retail cannabis sold at selected state liquor stores than cannabis shops all over the state. We are seeing illicit product spiked with fentanyl and other drugs; a regulated product and market would be safer and would bring in revenue, some of which must be designated for prevention education and substance use disorder treatment."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire raise the minimum wage?

"We need to push businesses to pay a livable wage. The average minimum wage employee is not the mythical high school student in their first job but rather an underemployed and likely underinsured adult working several jobs to support a family."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire increase the size of solar panel installations that may participate in net energy metering?

"For"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire increase the base amount of per-pupil funding it provides to local school districts?

"For"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should the state permanently increase how much tax revenue it shares with towns and cities every year, beyond public school funding?

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the gradual phase-out of the Interests and Dividends tax?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Do you support Gov. Sununu's proposal to allow employers and employees to opt-in to a private, paid family and medical leave insurance plan, based on a pool of state employees, excluding coverage for personal illness?

"Against"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the state’s current system of public school funding, with each district’s total funding primarily dependent on local property tax revenue?

"Our current school funding strategies were proven inadequate in the Claremont decision, and have not been rectified, which is why additional lawsuits have been filed in an effort to force the state to address the issue. The reliance on property taxes pits taxpayers against the school board, parents against seniors, in every budget cycle."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire continue to participate in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which requires utilities to purchase allowances for every ton of carbon they emit?

"For"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

"Our constituents want this; our legislature has passed this twice!"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"I support evidence based, enforceable gun safety legislation such as child access prevention (safe storage) laws and 'red flag' laws that would allow family members and law enforcement to secure the guns of someone in crisis who may be a danger to themselves or others. After many years of working in injury prevention and with domestic violence service agencies, firearms in the home more often lead to tragedy than defense. There are ways to prevent harm while preserving the rights of law abiding gun owners."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2020

Should New Hampshire provide student loan debt repayment programs for workers in industries with labor shortages?
