Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?
"This program is yet another way to deplete public education. Even more importantly, it requires little or no accountability for the required education necessary to graduate from High School and attend accredited post secondary schools. Wouldn't that money be more wisely spent funding the overwhelming number of unfunded or underfunded mandates for the proper education of our students? The State Supreme Court demanded this in 1995! "This is an area that I need to understand better before I make a statement. However, I can say that I believe we need sufficient affordable housing for young families as well as downsizing seniors. Should New Hampshire do more to encourage the development of nuclear power, including small modular reactors (SMR), in the state?
"The state has to balance the benefits of such systems against the cons. To me, the benefits of clean energy include Reliable carbon free energy, lower emissions and grid reliablity, and economic development to build the small modular reactors (SMRs), not to mention the fact that we already have an existing Nuclear Power Plant in Seabrook with established regulations and monitoring. However, the cons still exist, including: The potential for cost overruns and the technology uncertainty of engineering SMRs remains an unknown because no systems are currently up and running in the US, and Radioactive waste management as well as public uncertainty cannot be ignored. I believe New Hampshire should keep the door open to advanced nuclear technologies, including small modular reactors, but we shouldn't write blank checks or pick winners and losers. Any proposal should demonstrate that it's safe, economically competitive, environmentally responsible, and won't shift excessive financial risk onto taxpayers or ratepayers. Finally, some argue that investments would produce greater benefits if directed toward energy efficiency, transmission upgrades, renewables, and battery storage instead. "This question requires significant investigation and research that would answer questions such as What would be the projected impact on electric rates over the next 10 years? How many additional projects would actually be built? Would municipalities and schools realize meaningful savings? Would the benefits outweigh any cost shifts to other customers? Could safeguards (such as periodic reviews or program caps) limit unintended consequences? This is a topic that I would love to learn more about in a house committee, understanding the impact, before deciding whether it should be employed."Undecided| Read My Position

Should New Hampshire restore funding for the Office of the Child Advocate?
"New Hampshire has a responsibility to protect vulnerable children and ensure state agencies are accountable. If an independent Child Advocate provides measurable oversight that improves outcomes and identifies problems before they become crises, restoring funding may be worthwhile. At the same time, any funding should come with clear performance measures and should not come at the expense of essential frontline services. I need to understand this issue more completely before offering a Yay or Nat decision. That comes from monitoring or participating in committee studies of this topic. As a new candidate for the house I have been not been privy to that information. However, this is a crucial topic that relates to the health and welfare of children, and should be treated with the highest level of scrutiny."For| Read My Position

"This seems to be a politically manufactured issue that has gained momentum from our current president who only challenges the validity of a free and fair election when it doesn't go his way. My feeling is that tNH, and broadly speaking, the US has always prided itself on the provision of free and fair elections. Any questions regarding that have come about since Donald Trump was beaten in 2020. His narcissism has created the voting rights debate today, when our judicial system has determined time and time again, that our elections are faccuraate, ree and safe. "This is an effort to further deplete public education in our State. It would force poorer communities to pay higher tuition costs for their students who choose to enroll in a different, probably more expensive school district. Should state law cap how much local school districts can increase their budget each year?
"In Claremont, we voted against such a tax cap because we found it to be irresponsible. We have an obligation to our students to provide them with a safe and healthy environment in which they can learn, and the curriculum that allows them to learn what they are required to learn in order to be successful in graduating. That could easily be complicated by an unforeseen need for a new bus, or a new furnace, or an updated software program. With such a cap, the cost of one of those potential problems would completely derail our budget for the next school year. Why put that kind of constraint on a community that already has a 'no frills' budget crafted by its administration? That would be a fiscally irresponsible act."For| Read My Position

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?
"Sensible gun law restrictions are in order to minimize the risk to public health. Gun violence is becoming an epidemic in this country. Death by a firearm is the leading cause of death for children aged 1-19yrs in the US. We need to protect our children and provide safe environments in which they can live and learn."
