Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?
"The primary purposes of public education are to ensure that we have an educated public who can make informed voting decisions. The other primary purpose is to create an educated workforce for the community. As currently designed in NH, there is not enough oversight for the EFT program. We do not know - we do not track - if the funds are being used to teach reading , writing, or math -- or whether they are being used for horseback riding or skiing lessons."

Should New Hampshire reinstate the interest and dividends tax?

"The interest and dividends tax can be calibrated -- that is, we could pass a law that it only goes into effect when a person makes over X dollars in interest and/or dividends. OR we could create the las such that people over a certain age pay less or none. I know that our older residents are concerned that they need to live off their life savings (because there are fewer and fewer jobs that come with pensions). We do not want to overburden the retired population. But we can reinstate this tax in a reasonable way that helps the state fund important programs."

"Many other states with high education ratings (e.g. Connecticut, Colorado, Massachusetts) use property taxes for only around half of their education funding. They get the rest from a variety of other sources."
