Position on Issues

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?

"I believe there is merit in the concept of providing options for students but we need to do that within the context of public schools I cannot support a program that is unfunded, takes away money from public schools and ultimately puts the burden back on the homeowner via property taxes. Our daughter attended both public and private schools. That was our choice as a family. I willingly paid (and made sacrifices) for her to attend. 90% of those who received the vouchers were already attending these private schools. They were rewarded financially to the financial detriment of the taxpayers. The program was budgeted for $185,000 in the first year and cost over $10 million dollars. This is simply not right on so many levels."

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the first trimester (e.g. after 6 weeks gestation)?

"I was in college when Roe vs Wade was ruled on by the Supreme Court and the results were put into law. I remember the world back then and some of the dangerous choices women made when there were no other options. I support that a woman has the right to make her own decisions regarding her own pregnancy; that decision is not one to be made through legislation."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the second trimester (e.g. after 15 weeks gestation)?

"I'm a mom; I've given birth. When a woman in her second trimester chooses an abortion, there is a very serious reason for this decision. She needs to discuss this painful option with her family and her physician and make the right decision for the health of all involved. This is not up to the legislature; it is up to the individuals."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire ban discussions about sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K-3?

"You don't talk to someone in grades K-3 like you talk to someone in grades 4-8, but that does not mean you don't talk to them in terms that make sense for that age group! There should be picture books available to reflect families today - which are far different than when I grew up in the 50's with Dick and Jane!"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the state law that bans teaching certain concepts, such as the idea that people may be "inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously"?

"This was never an issue in our state of NH. It certainly was not an issue in either Chichester or Pittsfield, the towns I hope to represent. This is an example of a National Agenda being set by a fringe group, who then recruit (and support $$$) people to run for office to put into place a law to fix a problem that isn't there."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"From a personal perspective - sure - I'm retiring in January and my income will be reduced significantly! However, when running for office, I need to consider what is best for most of my neighbors in our communities of Chichester & Pittsfield, rather than just for me. We are in an inflationary time when most wages are lagging behind the inflation index. An income tax during this time could affect the hard working middle class members of our state. It could make sense if assessed on those with higher income i.e $200,000 + AND, IF it is guaranteed to reduce the property tax burden for our towns. In this case, I could vote on an income tax."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

"Soaring property taxes affect all of us who call NH home. When talking to my neighbors in Pittsfield and Chichester, I often hear from long time NH residents who are now retired, that they cannot afford the taxes on their family homes. Property taxes plus the inflation affect we are all feeling, we need to come with a way to reduce our property tax burden. I would support a luxury sales tax based on consumption ONLY if it has a direct impact on lowering our property taxes."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire add a tax credit for businesses that contribute to student loan repayment for employees?

"Yes. I think this is an excellent example of good collaboration between the state, businesses and the work force. This is a Win-Win approach for our state and (of course!) the residents of Chichester and Pittsfield."

Concord Monitor Candidate Profile, 2012

Supports business tax credits to fund scholarships, "Only if it does not trickle down to affect the revenues of the towns."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

"My husband has owned his own business; I have worked with independent retailers for the past 40+ years. My husband actually did pay 'an income tax' during his time of self employment. It is important that we provide a positive environment for business growth and innovation in our state."

Concord Monitor Candidate Profile, 2012

Supports expanded gambling, "in a very limited and regulated capacity."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire government do more to address climate change?

"Yes - I am not sure at this point other measures that need to be taken - but our NH economy has a large dependency on tourism and changes in climate affect our ski season, our foliage, etc."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support giving voters who register without ID on Election Day a ballot that only counts if they return identifying documents to the state before a deadline?

"We do not or ever have had an issue with voter fraud in NH. This is another case of people outside of our state encouraging individuals to run and support their initiatives which do not have any relevance for our wonderful state!! We in NH have always prided ourselves on our high voter turnout. We should be growing these numbers, not reducing them by providing unnecessary roadblocks and barriers."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire add a fee or mileage charge for electric vehicle owners to help pay for transportation and/or electric infrastructure?

"People who drive electric vehicles are benefitting all of us. We need to encourage the use of this electric vehicle rather than penalizing the 'pioneers' who are embracing this sensible and beneficial change in technology."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should the state do more to encourage municipalities to remove zoning barriers to housing development?

"This is a tough one because each town is unique. However, we have a major housing and rental crisis in our state. I support the state providing a $$$ incentive for the towns to encourage them to consider apartments and other moderate housing options."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire extend the renewable portfolio standard past 2025, requiring public utilities to obtain more than 25% of electricity from renewable energy sources?

"This is a serious issue and we are constantly reminded of the affects of global warming, most recently with the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian in Florida. When fossil fuels are burned, they emit greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide that trap heat in the earth's atmosphere and contributes to climate change. NH has to be better at looking at alternative renewable resources. It is good for our environment and it is good for our pocket books!"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire guarantee the right to access abortion before 24 weeks?

"Anyone getting an abortion after 24 weeks is doing that for a very serious and personal reason. This should be a decision made between a family and their physician to ensure the best health for all involved. It should not be up to a state legislator."

Concord Monitor Candidate Profile, 2012

Supports legalization of medicinal marijuana, "If the correct regulations are in place."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the option of mail-in ballots for all voters, not just absentees?

"During the pandemic, we used mail-in voting. In NH we had minimal cases of abuse. This encourages more people to vote and it is time to move us from being at the bottom of 50 states in terms of ease of voting!"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by allowing home-growing and private use without sales?

"As a state, we make money on liquor and cigarettes; if we are going to legalize marijuana, let's make money and let's target it to a needed area like addiction or our prison system."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by licensing growers and private retail locations?

"As a state, we make money on liquor and cigarettes; if we are going to legalize marijuana, let's make money and let's target it to a needed area like addiction or our prison system."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by establishing state-run cannabis stores?

"As a state, we make money on liquor and cigarettes; if we are going to legalize marijuana, let's make money and let's target it to a needed area like addiction or our prison system."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire raise the minimum wage?

"When I was in office 15 years ago, we passed the last NH minimum wage - $7.25 an hour. Today, it may not matter since companies are paying in excess - but what about 6 months or a year from now. NH should provide a living wage for all our citizens; we are not doing that today."

Voting Record, 2014

Voted to repeal the death penalty (HB 1170)

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should the state permanently increase how much tax revenue it shares with towns and cities every year, beyond public school funding?

"Let's start with public school funding. That is where the bulk of most budgets sit. THEN we can consider other options for the towns."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the gradual phase-out of the Interests and Dividends tax?

"I need to get additional information and data before making an educated decision and vote but at first glance, this makes sense to me!"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Do you support the state’s current system of public school funding, with each district’s total funding primarily dependent on local property tax revenue?

"If elected, I will represent Pittsfield and Chichester, two different neighboring towns with different educational needs and costs. We need to work together across Party lines to come up with a solution which does not penalize towns (and more importantly our students!) with lower property values. This has gone on too long and needs to be resolved."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should New Hampshire repeal the ban on abortion after 24 weeks gestation?

"Anyone getting an abortion after 24 weeks is doing that for a very serious and personal reason. This should be a decision made between a family and their physician to ensure the best health for all involved. It should not be up to a state legislator."

Concord Monitor Candidate Profile, 2012

Does not support repeal of same-sex marriage

Concord Monitor Candidate Profile, 2012

Supports allowing employers to exempt contraception from insurance plans, "Only employers of religious organizations where 'no contraception' is part of their doctrine."

Concord Monitor Candidate Profile, 2012

Does not support voter ID, "since a need for this has not been established in our state."

Concord Monitor Candidate Profile, 2012

Does not support Right-to-Work, "Since all employees benefit from the negotiations made between union and management regarding safety, health care and benefits, all employees should help defray the costs of these negotiations."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2022

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"It depends on the law. We need to provide a safe environment, especially for our children. I would love NH to pass a Red Flag Law which is an innovative and proactive approach to gun safety and even Florida has one! Governor Sununu vetoed the Red Gun Law that was passed by both chambers in our legislature. This is not a partisan issue. Red Gun law allows a medical professional and/or a teacher to give a heads up which would prevent someone buying a gun for a defined period between 2 weeks and one year. Let's start with this one; it is about safety for our children. Then we can look at others that just make sense."
