"I reject all efforts to divert public funding to private, religious, or home school education. This is a part of a systemic attack on our public community schools. This program has no income qualification or accountability. Public school students must take standardized tests, home-schooled voucher recipients do not. "I'd like to see every town follow the lead of Meredith, my hometown, which this year passed a series of zoning amendments aimed at encouraging the development of affordable housing units. In many lake towns like Meredith, nearly half of the town’s housing stock is classified as seasonal or recreational, which significantly reduces available year-round housing. Builders will need some incentive to build affordable housing instead of another multi-million dollar estate on the lake. Should New Hampshire do more to encourage the development of nuclear power, including small modular reactors (SMR), in the state?
"SMRs may have some potential in a few decades, but the technology thus far is not ready for prime time. There are currently no commercial SMR projects in the U.S. I do not support efforts to build new nuclear plants in New Hampshire. The Seabrook debacle, which bankrupted at least two public utilities in NH, should be lesson enough. Instead, let's invest in the expansion of the region's natural gas pipeline. "If the state will not impose an income or sales tax, it must find other ways to raise revenue. As the cost of public education is downshifted to towns, local property taxpayers in many towns are so overburdened that they're turning against their own school districts. New Hampshire shouldn't be proud of its meager support for public education. The state must deal directly with a problem they've dodged for more than 30 years: how will it fund public schools so that the quality of your kids' education isn't determined by your zip code?"For| Read My Position
