Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2026

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH abolish partisan primaries and adopt the "Top 2" primary system?

"I have not studied this concept- I would have to learn more before saying yes."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH allow binding referendums?

In favor of statewide referendums: "Yes, and hopefully we will use the power wisely."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"All 'increases' in state revenue have to come from hard-working families who don't have any extra money to spare in these times. We should cut state revenue to increase what each family can keep and spend on their needs."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

"All 'increases' in state revenue have to come from hard-working families who don't have any extra money to spare in these times. We should cut state revenue to increase what each family can keep and spend on their needs."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH authorize one or more casinos?

Does not support expansion of gambling

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH pass a constitutional amendment giving the Legislature more control over the distribution of school funding?

Does not support adopting a constitutional amendment that reduces the role of the courts in the school funding challenge

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH decriminalize small amounts of marijuana?

"The War on Drugs has been every bit as successful as the War on Poverty, the War on Gambling and the War on Cyber-Piracy. The government hasn't been able to keep drugs out of the country, out of our schools, or even out of our prisons, even though we're the most advanced nation on earth. Treat marijuana like alcohol and be done with it. Use the millions we save to put more murderers and rapists behind bars and to make sure our kids can compete with the rest of the world in Math and Science."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should LLCs be subject to the interest and dividends tax?

Does not support a LLC tax

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH increase the interest and dividends tax?

Does not support increases in I&D tax

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH increase tolls and/or add new toll booths?

Against adding tolls to I-93 at Mass. border

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH continue to allow medicinal marijuana?

"The state has no right telling a dying cancer patient they can't take something which would ease their pain and extend their life. Or telling any adult what to do with their own body, for that matter. Banning fats and sugars would make most of us healthier, but a law to require we all eat better would be just as obtrusive as laws denying medicine to adults."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH do more to enforce federal immigration laws?

"States control what happens inside the state, the Federal government controls what happens with the rest of the world- that's how the Federalist system is supposed to work."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH keep the death penalty?

"If all due process is followed and impartial justice issued by a group of peers, the death penalty can be a fitting penalty for some crimes."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH continue to use property taxes instead of a new broad-based tax, such as an income tax?

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH repeal same-sex marriage?

"Two consenting adults have a right to live in their own bedroom however they choose- the state has no authority there. To those who want to defend traditional marriage, I would say that they need to address the 50% of marriages that end in divorce, not prevent two people who love each other from making a lifetime bond."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH require car insurance for some or all drivers?

"Insurance is a great idea, but adults are free to make bad decisions. That's what civil courts are for, to address the monetary wrongs one person does to another."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH require motorcycle helmets?

"No."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH require seat belts?

"Being an adult means taking responsibility for your own actions. Seat belts are a great idea- I always wear them if I'm driving on a highway or in snow. But we don't need the state telling us what's best for us. What's next- mandatory exercise for all adults? Because every year, heart disease kills many multiples more than car accidents."

Does not support local meals, room tax

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH government switch from a pension system to a 401(k)-style retirement plan?

Supports reforming retirement benefits: "Municipal and state employees do a great job, but who will pay their pension if the state goes bankrupt like CA and IL are about to go? Every private sector employee, from private teachers, private doctors, and private security, pays into their own 401K- there is no reason public employees cannot as well."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2012

Should NH restrict further wind power development?

Against restrictions on windfarms based on aesthetics and environmental impact, but not amout of subsidies: "windmills are great sources for power- but need to be subject to the same zoning laws as any other power plant. The same neighbors who have the right to object to a new coal plant in their backyard have the right to voice concerns about a wind farm. But it should be handled at a local level- one town's eyesore might be another town's plan to attract tourists. Each local area should decide on its own."
