Citizens Count bill summary methodology

Body

Citizens Count summarizes and tracks every single bill that is brought before the New Hampshire Legislature. That’s over 1,000 bills per year!

Most of the information you see on a Citizens Count bill page is pulled directly from the official New Hampshire legislative database on the General Court’s website. Public hearing date, hearing location, voting date, and bill status are automatically updated multiple times a day on the Citizens Count website.

The bill summaries are created by Citizens Count staff, after reading the text of the bill. Citizens Count staff will also update our handwritten summaries the day after House and Senate votes to reflect any major amendments. Citizens Count aims to keep our bill summaries in simple terms without “legalese.” When appropriate, we include brief context, such as a related lawsuit or legislation. Context does not include partisan arguments, however. We vet our bill summaries to ensure unbiased language. Our bill summaries simply state the proposed changes to state law.

As always, we pride ourselves on providing unbiased, up-to-date information for everyday voters—not paid lobbyists—seeking information about our state government.

If you have a question or feedback about any of our bill summaries, email us. Citizens Count, like our state government, works best when there are many voices sharing information.
