The administration of President Donald Trump has announced plans to open nearly all U.S. offshore waters to oil and gas drilling. The proposal would include previously off-limits acreage in the Arctic, Pacific and Atlantic oceans, including areas along the New Hampshire coast. Read more about this issue.

No: 143 citizens opposed offshore drilling along the New Hampshire coast.

  • “With only 17 miles of coastline, offshore drilling would have a large impact on tourism. I would vote no.”
  • “No. The possibility of a spill on our shores is not something we should have to deal with. If I'm going to look out and see a big installation in the water, I'd rather see a big wind farm.”
  • “No. The US exported oil and gas at record levels last year. There's no need to expand off shore drilling.”

Yes: 62 citizens were in favor of drilling along the New Hampshire coast.

  • “Our dependence on oil is not going away. But if our dependence on other countries for oil can decrease, that would be good.”
  • “Yes and the citizens of New Hampshire should get a revenue check just like the citizens of Alaska do.”
  • “Yes. Energy is vital to the nation. Fossil fuels should be extracted and utilized wherever they are found.”
