Bloomberg recently compiled a list of the 30 most heavily armed states in the U.S., based on per-capita gun ownership rates from the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record and the U.S. Census Bureau. NH ranked 13th in the nation, a tie with Georgia, as both states showed a rate of 14.6 guns per 1,000 residents. The winner for most heavily armed state was Wyoming, which topped runner-up Washington D.C. with almost three times the rate of guns per capita, at 195.7 per 1,000 residents. At the bottom of the list was New York, with only 3.3 firearms registered per 1,000 residents.

Interestingly, a Business Insider report on a survey from the journal Injury Prevention found that only 14.4% of New Hampshire residents reported being gun owners, one of the lowest rates in the country. The Granite State ranked 46th, beating out only Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey and Delaware. The national average was 29.1%

In another Bloomberg ranking, New Hampshire came in 9th nationally for increase in the percentage of National Firearms Act-registered weapons, with the number of registered arms in the state jumping 19.59% from March 2014 to February 2015.  Utah showed the highest increase, up 105.9% over the previous year.
