HB 1421 (2022)
Require schools and day cares to notify parents of high lead levels
This bill became law.
Requires schools and licensed child care facilities to notify parents of water tests with high lead levels.
The Senate amended the bill to further revise the law requiring schools and childcare facilities to test for lead. First, the amended bill lowers the level of lead tolerated in water from 15 parts per billion to 5 parts per billion.
The amended bill also allows schools and daycares to install filtered water bottle filling stations instead of completing water testing. Those water bottle filling stations must provide water with lead levels below 5 parts per billion.
A final Senate amendment sends $7.76 million for state drinking water grant programs.
