HB 710 (2025)
Allow utilities to purchase mini nuclear power, other energy law changes
This bill did not become law.
Adds "advanced nuclear resources" to state laws that require utilities to offer ratepayers the option to pay extra to support renewable energy.
The House rewrote the bill to instead allow utilities to sign purchase power agreements (PPAs) with "advanced nuclear resources" (micro, mini, or small nuclear reactors) for the acquisition of up to 20% of a utility’s need for electrical energy.
The Senate amended the bill add many other provisions related to energy. In particular, the Senate amendment incorporated text from SB 112 and SB 228.
A conference committee of representatives and senators failed to agree on a final version of the bill.
