SB 1 (2023)
Lengthen timeline to close Sununu Youth Services Center
This bill became law.
As introduced, this bill would have required the Department of Health and Human Services to construct a secured treatment facility for juveniles, with a maximum capacity up to 18 beds and an operational plan to support 12 beds. This facility would replace the Sununu Youth Services Center by November 1, 2024.
The Senate amended the bill to also establish a commission to study the public safety of the youth development center and surrounding communities.
The House rewrote the bill, postponing the closure date for the Sununu Youth Services Center from March 1 to June 30, 2023. The bill then lays out criteria for planning a new, alternative facility.
