SB 110 (2023)
Revise residency laws for emergency and temporary housing
This bill became law.
Clarifies the residency laws for a person in a hospital, treatment program center, or emergency housing. For example, if a person voluntarily leaves emergency housing or is kicked out for breaking the rules, this bill states that the individual remains a resident of the municipality of origin for 30 days. According to the New Hampshire Municipal Association, this bill ties a person's legal residence to their place of origin, which could increase costs for municipalities without emergency housing who transfer their residents to other locations.
