SB 236 (2022)
Study NH teacher shortage
This bill became law.
Establishes a committee to study New Hampshire teacher shortages and recruitment incentives.
The House amended the bill to also provide that teachers of grades 7-12 shall be considered secondary school teachers for purposes of teacher loan forgiveness programs. According to Rep. Deborah Hobson, writing on behalf of the House Education Committee, "Prior to this legislation, junior high school teachers, grades 7 and 8, who teach the same course competencies as offered in grade 9, and who possess the same teacher certification as a secondary teacher, have not been considered secondary teachers and therefore not eligible for teacher loan forgiveness. This bill corrects the inequity."
