SB 249 (2023)
Establish court magistrates to assist in bail process
This bill did not become law.
If a person is arrested a third time while already out on bail for previous crimes, this bill requires the person be held without bail until trial. This bill rewrites an existing law that requires the court to consider various factors when a person is arrested while already out on bail.
The House completely rewrote the bill. The new bill establishes magistrates that would assist with bail hearings, issuing warrants, and other related court functions.
The House did not agree on a final version of the bill. However, aspects of this bill were added to HB 318.
