SB 345 (2022)
Lower minimum age for some work, allow more hours
This bill became law.
Generally lowers the minimum age to work in various jobs and allows youth to work more hours.
In the version of this bill passed by the Senate, employees who are 14 years old would be permitted to bus tables. Employees who are 16 and 17 years old would be allowed to work up to 35 hours (current limit is 30 hours) during five-day school weeks. Finally, the bill would allow a youth to work no later than 10:00 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday, or no later than 12:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The House amended that final part of the bill to simply repeal the limit on how late a youth can work.
