SB 578 (2026)
Limit withholding of recess
This bill did not become law.
Mandates that schools provide recess for all students in grades kindergarten through eight and prohibits the withholding of recess unless a pupil's participation poses a physical safety risk.
The House rewrote the bill. Their version of the bill removes the requirement that kindergarten educators develop literacy through guided reading. The amended bill then limits withholding pupils from recess unless a pupil's participation poses a physical safety risk.
