SB 617 (2026)
Revise laws around contracted tow companies used by State Police, protect drivers from license suspension for unpaid towing fees
This bill is still active.
Makes extensive revisions to the procedures and processes related to the list of contracted tow companies used by the State Police.
The House amended the bill to also add protections for individuals who their car towed. First, the amendment requires invoices generated from towing and impounding vehicles to clearly indicate the process for appeal and extends the time period for a vehicle owner to appeal. Second, the amendment prohibits the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) from suspending a person's license or driving privileges based on their failure to pay a debt related to a commercial entity's towing or storage of a vehicle.
