SB 71 (2025)
Prohibit local sanctuary policies, require reports on refusal to honor an immigration detainer
This bill is still active.
Prohibits state and local governments from adopting "sanctuary policies," which prohibit or impede law enforcement cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.
The Senate amended the bill to also authorize county corrections facilities to hold individuals for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for up to 48 hours. The amended bill then requires any agency refusing to honor an immigration detainer to report each such refusal to the Attorney General.
The House added the text of this bill to SB 62.
