Position on Issues

"New Hampshire’s school voucher program has cost over $100 million over the last two years. Since the income cap was removed last year, over 90% of the families receiving that money were already sending their kids to private school before they ever got a check from the state. This program was meant to help families who couldn’t otherwise afford a private education. Now the state is subsidizing decisions those families had already made, at the direct expense of the public schools everyone else’s kids attend.

"We’re funding programs that move money directly out of our public schools and into private and religious education. Every dollar that goes out the door through school vouchers (Education Freedom Accounts) is a dollar that no longer supports the school in your town, but that school still has to keep its commitments to the kids who walk through its doors. Costs don’t shrink when the state aid does. They shift onto the only line item local government primarily controls: your property tax bill."

"This is not something our towns can fix alone. Ask a select board what stands between them and new housing and most will not say they lack the will. They will say they lack the water line, or the sewer capacity, or the road a new development would need. A town that cannot afford the pipe cannot approve the project.

"Politicians in Concord used to understand that. In 2023, the legislature created the Housing Champions program on a bipartisan vote. This is a voluntary program where towns that opted in could get financial help partnering with private companies to build housing and the infrastructure it depends on. Eighteen towns signed up. Then, the Republican majority in Concord stopped funding the program."

"This past year alone, Goffstown missed out on more than $6.6 million in state education funding it should be receiving if the state paid the court-mandated amount of per-pupil base adequacy aid to our public schools. Manchester is missing out on more than $35.6 million, Hooksett $5.7 million, Raymond $3.3 million and Candia $1.2 million. Across New Hampshire, we’ve seen a nearly 25% increase in our property taxes on average since 2022 because the state is not paying its fair share to our communities.

"Your property tax bill did not go up by accident. It went up because a decision was made in Concord, and the decision was that you would pay for it instead. This has to stop."
