Position on Issues

"As a Pro-Life Republican, I believe in protecting the unborn. However, New Hampshire has already codified its abortion laws in the state despite the Supreme Court's recent ruling. As the Tenth Amendment clearly states, 'The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.' Granite Staters can and should decide what's best for our state, not politicians in Washington. Abortion is legal in New Hampshire up to the 24th week with exceptions for fatal fetal diagnoses and if the mother's life is in danger. We also have a parental notification law on the books for minors under the age of 18 seeking abortions. While rational people can disagree on what abortion restrictions should be in place, it is far better for elected officials on the state level to determine which restrictions are necessary instead of the federal government dictating what works best for the Granite State."

"The first step towards stopping and reducing inflation is to rein in federal spending, lower taxes and balance the budget. As a New Hampshire State Senator, I took New Hampshire's budget from a deficit to a surplus twice. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to address the challenges in Washington. We must make the tough choices to cut federal spending and balance the budget to drive down inflation, which has negatively impacted every family in the Granite State."

"Election integrity is paramount to a functioning democracy. We must make it easy to vote and hard to cheat. As a New Hampshire State Senator, I was the prime sponsor of our commonsense voter ID law. I worked with town clerks to assure transparency, open access and voter confidence in our election system. Because each state oversees its own elections, it is best left to their voters - and not Congress - to determine how they run and operate their electoral systems. As a member of Congress, I will work to ensure all federal agencies have the funding and resources they need to combat foreign interference and voter fraud."

"As a supporter of our 2nd Amendment rights and the prime sponsor of Constitutional Carry in the New Hampshire State Senate in 2004, I will always defend our right to bear arms. The majority of gun crime in the United States is committed by criminals with illegal guns. Mental health problems are the number one driver of mass shootings in America, and they must be addressed immediately. In Congress, I will support funding and resources to help mental health professionals and law enforcement keep our communities safe."

"There is no question that tuition for most institutions in higher education is overpriced, especially for private and out-of-state schools. Potential students need to be made aware of the debts they could accrue from attending an expensive college and make their decisions accordingly. ... However, taxpayers should not be on the hook for irresponsible individuals who took on too much debt for higher education. We cannot afford to cancel student debt and punish the middle class for the actions of others."
