"Granite Staters already pay the federal income tax. A state tax based on the federal tax would be simple to implement. But the concept of a state income tax is politically toxic here in NH. My community has a large number of residents who commute to Massachusetts and voluntarily pay state income tax. Apparently, they make more money down there even with the state income tax being taken out of their paychecks. But pay scales north of the state line would still be lower even if NH also had a state imcome tax, "
