What Participants Said

No: 338 citizens were against redesigning the New Hampshire flag.

  • “No. It’s fine just the way it is.”
  • “Because it kind of looks like other states' flags doesn't seem like a particularly compelling reason to change.”
  • “No… Some things should change. Others, not so much. Why waste time and resources on this?”

Yes: 21 citizens were in favor of redesigning the New Hampshire flag.

  • “Yes. Change is good. The old flag can be displayed at a museum.”
  • “Unfortunately, New Hampshire's flag looks far too similar to roughly 16 other state flags. It would be nice to have something unique and distinctive for the state.”
  • “I’d be fine with it. The only claim to fame the USS Raleigh had was it was one of the first vessels commissioned. Other than that, it was ingloriously abandoned and subsequently captured by the British.”

Other: 31 citizens addressed their comments to related questions and issues.
These included:

  •  Most of these individuals were asking for clarification of possible reasons for changing the flag.
