HB 1093 (2026)
Place charter schools under 'public school' category in building, fire codes
This bill is still active.
Extends state building code compliance requirements and eligibility for state-funded school construction aid to chartered public schools on the same basis as traditional public schools.
The House amended the bill to remove the sections on school building aid. According to a report from the House Education and Policy Administration Committee, "The bill as amended classifies buildings owned, operated, or occupied by charter schools as 'public school buildings,' in regard to the state building code and the state fire code. Doing so eases the burden for charter schools seeking to renovate structures and standardizes the permitting process for all forms of public schools."
